NASA's Quick Scatterometer (QuikSCAT) satellite on display in the Engineering Lab, Blg 17
July 22, 2002: Students, from left, Richard Coto, Claudio Hoyos and Russel Metlitzky look at NASA's Quick Scatterometer (QuikSCAT) satellite on display in the Engineering Lab, Blg 17. The satellite was lofted into space in 1999 atop a U.S. Air Force Titan II launch vehicle from Space Launch Complex 4 West at California's Vandenberg Air Force Base. The SeaWinds instrument on the QuikSCAT satellite is a specialized microwave radar that measures near-surface wind speed and direction under all weather and cloud conditions over Earth's oceans.
