Symptoms of Spyware vary greatly, from no visible symptoms to sluggish Internet connection or shortage of hard disk space.
Some common symptoms may include:
- Your web browser home page has changed
- You receive excessive pop-up ads
- Certain programs don't run like they used to
- New toolbars install themselves
- Your computer runs very slowly and your Internet connections take longer
than usual
- New Favorites/Bookmarks have been inserted in your web browser
- It takes much longer to start or to resume your computer applications
- Your virus or Spyware scanner frequently complains that you have Spyware
or Trojan horses installed
- Unidentified suspicious phone bill charges (usually 900 numbers)
Although you may not see any of the above symptoms on your computer, it is still possible that you have spyware running. It is highly recommended that you install and run one or more of the spyware scanning and removal tools found here.
