About:

Q. What is this list about?

A. InterFAQ is Interactive Frequently Asked Questions: an email list where geeks, newbies, and other computer users get together to ask and answer questions and trade tips. It provides an informal, and often 24/7, alternative to official sources such as the Help Desk

The contents of the list represent the opinions of those who participate, and are not official policy of California State Polytechnic University, Pomona nor of the Division of Instructional & Information Technology.

 

Q. Who can participate?

A. This list is for employees and students of Cal Poly Pomona. Subscriptions are allowed from Cal Poly Pomona email addresses only.

 

Q. Are there any prohibitions?

A. Violators of the following rules will be unsubscribed:

1. Do not disguise your identity.
2. No commercial email.
3. No chain letters or "send this to all your friends".

 

Q. Any other guidelines?

A. Guidelines:

1. Don't send administrative requests, such as "unsubscribe", to the list. Instead, use the web interface.
2. Trim your replies: don't include every word of the message you are replying to. Leave in only the parts necessary to put your reply in context. This may differ from the way you are used to doing email (especially if you use Outlook), but it's the only way to make the list tolerable to people who subscribe to the digest: they have to scroll through quoted material again and again to get to the new stuff. (Trimming replies is independent of the continuing battle over bottom posting versus top posting, although top posters are more often guilty of not trimming.)
3. Don't send unresearched virus warnings to the list; most are hoaxes. Instead, send them to the list moderator (interfaq-owner@mailman.csupomona.edu), who will check them out and forward them to the list if they are legitimate.

 

Q. Who is responsible for the list?

A. The list is currently maintained by Curtis Clark, Web Coordinator, jcclark@csupomona.edu, +1 909 979 6371.

If I post to the list in my capacity as list owner, I will put ADMIN in the subject line. All the rest of my posts are as a list member, rather than a list owner.

Q. How do I subscribe and unsubscribe?

A. Use the Mailman web interface at https://mailman.csupomona.edu/mailman/listinfo/interfaq.

 

Q. How do I send a message to the list?

A. Send an email to interfaq@mailman.csupomona.edu.

 

Q. I get lots of email already. What if there is a lot of traffic on this list?

A. Every message from the list will contain the string [interfaq] in the subject line. With many email programs, it is possible to set up a "filter" or "rule" which will automatically transfer these messages to a separate mailbox, enabling you to read or ignore them at your leisure. Learning to filter email is a useful skill, and not all that difficult.
