Client Setup Instruction Guides: EXCHANGE - Secure Socket Layer (SSL) POP3: Outlook XP
Note: We are ensuring that our email is even more secure by supporting "Secure Socket Layer" (SSL) for our Webmail, POP, IMAP and SMTP servers.
If you need to send or receive email before completing configuration of your local email client, you can still access email through your web browser interface at:
https://exchange.csupomona.edu.
- Click on Start.
- Select Settings.
- Click on Control Panel.

- Click "User Accounts".

- Click on "Mail".

- Click on Email Accounts.

- On the Email Accounts and Directories window:
- Select the "Add a new email account" radio button.
- Click Next.

- On the Email Accounts: Server Type window:
- Select the "POP3" radio button.
- Click Next.

- On the Email Accounts: Internet Email Settings (POP3) window:
- Under User Information, enter in your name and Cal Poly Pomona email address.
- Under Server Information, enter "exchange.csupomona.edu" in the Incoming mail server (POP3) field.
- Under Server Information, enter "smtp.csupomona.edu" in the Outgoing mail server (SMTP) field.
- Under Logon Information, enter your BroncoName in the User Name field and Network Password for the Password field.
Note: For information on on how to set your network password, see Cal Poly Computer Accounts: Network Account.
- Click on the "More Settings" button.
- On the Internet Email Settings window:
- Click the Advanced tab.
- Under the Server Port Numbers section:
- For Incoming server (POP3):
- Use the secure connection (SSL) for POP3 server settings by placing a check mark in the "This server requires an encrypted connection (SSL)" box.
Note: This setting will change the default port to 995.
- For Outgoing server (SMTP):
- Use the secure connection (SSL) for SMTP server settings by placing a check mark in the "This server requires an encrypted connection (SSL)" box.
Note: This setting will change the default port to 465. If port 465 doesn't work, then use port 25. In case either ports are blocked (either by your ISP (Internet Service Provider) or by your anti-virus software), use a VPN (Virtual Private Network) connection at http://www.csupomona.edu/~ehelp/vpn/index.html.
Note: For laptop or home use, outgoing email authentication might be helpful when not using VPN (Virtual Private Network) - use SSL SMTP outgoing mail services when you are off campus.
You will need a network password to create a VPN connection. The network password is not the same as your BroncoPassword. To set your Network Password, see eHelp's General FAQs page at http://www.csupomona.edu/~ehelp/faq/general_faq.html (link opens in a new window).
- Under the Delivery section, place a check mark in the "Leave a copy of messages on the server" box.
- Click OK.
