Migrating from Eudora to Thunderbird
There are two simple ways to migrate from Eudora to Thunderbird:
- If you are starting up Thunderbird for the very first time, the Import Wizard will pop up, and you can then select the "Eudora" option to import your mail, address books and settings.
- Subsequent to launching Thunderbird for the first time, you can also go the the "Tools" menu, select "Import...", and then individually import your mail, address books or settings from Eudora.
Configure Thunderbird to access the Exchange Server
Note: We are ensuring that our email is even more secure by supporting "Secure Socket Layer" (SSL) for our Webmail, POP, IMAP and SMTP servers.
If you need to send or receive email before completing configuration of your local email client, you can still access email through your web browser interface at:
https://exchange.csupomona.edu.
NOTE: This guide assume that you have a bronco account, BroncoPassword and your network password for SMTP and VPN.
Pre-Configuration Settings:
NOTE: Only perform the following "Pre-Configuration Settings" if your computer is NOT a part of the campus WIN domain.
- Download the latest version of Thunderbird email client from Mozilla at http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/thunderbird/.
- Double click on the file you downloaded and drag the file to your Application folder.
- From your Application folder, double click on Thunderbird.

- The Thunderbird Import Wizard window will display.
- Click on Continue.

- Under New Account Setup:
- Select "Email account".
- Click Continue.

- Under Identity:
- Enter your name in the Your Name field.
- Enter your Cal Poly Pomona email address in the Email Address field.

- Under Server Information:
- Select IMAP for " the type of incoming server you are using".
- Enter "exchange.csupomona.edu" for the Incoming Server field.
- Enter "smtp.csupomona.edu" for the Outgoing Server field.
- Click Continue.

- Under Account Name, enter "CPP IMAP".

- You will receive a configuration setting confirmation window. If the information is correct, click Done. If the information is incorrect, click Go Back to edit the information.

- In the All Folders window pane:
- Hold down the Ctrl key on your keyboard and click on the configuration account name (CPP IMAP).
- From the pop up menu, select Properties.

- In Account properties, click on Server Settings.
- For the Port, enter 993.
- Under Security Settings, select the SSL radio button. This will enable a secure connection.
- If you wish to leave a copy on the server, check mark the option “Leave messages on server”.
- Click OK.
- Click on the Get Mail icon button.

- You will be prompted for your BroncoPassword. Enter your BroncoPassword and click OK.
NOTE: When you send your first email, you will also be prompted to enter the SMTP or Network password. Depending on your Internet Service Providers (ISP), you may also need to connect to our VPN service to access our SMTP.

- All messages will begin to download. To check the download status, look at the progress meter located in the bottom right hand side of the screen.

Configure Thunderbird to use SSL POP3 connection
NOTE: This guide assume that you have a bronco account, BroncoPassword and your network password for SMTP and VPN.

- Under User Names:
- Enter your BroncoName for both the Incoming User Name field and the Outgoing User Name field.
- Click Continue.

- You will receive a configuration setting confirmation window. If the information is correct, click Done. If the information is incorrect, click Go Back to edit the information.

- In the All Folders window pane:
- Hold down the Ctrl key on your keyboard and click on the configuration account name (CPP POP).
- From the pop up menu, select Properties.

- In Account properties, click on Server Settings.
- For the Port, enter 995.
- Under Security Settings, select the SSL radio button. This will enable a secure connection.
