Email Account Information

Client Setup Instruction Guides: EXCHANGE - Outlook XP (Windows 2000)

Note: We are ensuring that our email is even more secure by supporting "Secure Socket Layer" (SSL) for our Webmail, POP, IMAP and SMTP servers.

If you need to send or receive email before completing configuration of your local email client, you can still access email through your web browser interface at:

https://exchange.csupomona.edu.

 

Pre-Configuration Settings:

NOTE: Only perform the following "Pre-Configuration Settings" if your computer is NOT a part of the campus WIN domain.

  1. Click on Start > Settings > Control Panel.
  2. Click on the Network and Dial-up Connections icon. Within this screen, right click on your connection and choose properties.
  3. In the properties screen, double click on the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) choice.


  4. In the properties screen, click the Advanced button.
  5. In the advanced TCP/IP settings screen, click the DNS tab.
  6. Click the button that says "Append these DNS suffixes (in order):".
  7. Click the Add button.


  8. Click OK on all the screens until you return to the desktop. You are now ready to configure Outlook to accept your Exchange mail.

Outlook XP Configuration:

  1. Open Outlook by double-clicking the icon on your desktop, or going to Start > Programs > Microsoft Outlook, or Start > Microsoft Outlook, or Start > All Programs > Microsoft Outlook depending on the way you have the Start Menu configured.
  2. In the New Profile Window, type in the name of the server you will be connected to (in this case, Cal Poly Pomona Exchange), then click OK.


  3. In the next screen, under the email section, click on Add a new email account, and then click Next.
  4. Under Server Type, click Microsoft Exchange Server.
  5. In the next screen, in the box that says Microsoft Exchange Server, type outlook.csupomona.edu. In the user name, type your BroncoName.


  6. Click on the More Settings button.
  7. Click on the Security tab.
    1. Place a check mark next to "Encrypt data between Microsoft Office Outlook and Microsoft Exchange".
    2. Under "Logon network security", select "Kerberos/NTLM Password Authentication".
    3. Click OK.


  8. Next to the box where you typed your name, click Check Name. This verifies your user name, and will prompt you for your BroncoName, BroncoPassword and domain. In the domain box, type win. Click Next.
  9. Click Finish. You are now ready to begin using Outlook with the Exchange servers.

Post-Configuration Settings:

  1. Open Outlook.
  2. Select "Tools" from the top menu.
  3. Select "Options...".
  4. Select the "Other" tab.
  5. UNCHECK the box "Enable Instant Messaging in Microsoft Outlook".
  6. Close Outlook.
