The Messages utility is a communication tool within Blackboard that can be used to send or receive messages to fellow classmates or Instructors.
Please note that the Messages utility differs from the Send Email utility in that the Messages utility operates strictly within the Blackboard course.

From Within the Course
- Click on the Communication link in your Course Menu located on the left side of the screen.

- Click on the Messages link.

Viewing Your Inbox
The Inbox folder contains messages that have been sent to you by fellow classmates or your instructor. The Inbox will show which messages have not yet been read as well as the time and date stamp of when the message was received.
- Click on the Inbox link

- Click on the subject line of the message you wish to view.
Viewing Your Sent Messages
The Sent folder contains messages that you have composed and sent to other classmates or instructors. The Sent folder will show the time and date stamps of the message sent.
- Click on the Sent link.

- Click on the subject line of the message you wish to view.
Creating a New Message
- Click on the New Message button located at the top of the screen.
- Click on the To button. This will pop open a list of students or instructors within your course.
- Select the recepient of your message and click the right arrow button to add this person to the recepient list. If you wish to remove someone from the recepient list select the name of the person you wish to remove and click the left arrow button.
- Fill out the Subject and Body fields.
- If you wish to attach an attachment click the Browse button located in the Attachement area and select the file you wish to attach from your local computer or Content Collection.
- Click the Submit button to send your message.
Add a New Folder
Creating a new folder within your Messages will help organize any messages you wish to keep for future reference.
- Click on the Add Folder button located at the top of your screen.

- Create a name for your folder.
- Click Submit.
