At the end of every semester, it is a good idea to create an archive and/or
export of your course both for record-keeping purposes and to reuse materials
in the future. There are differences, however, between archiving and exporting
a course.
- Archiving a course creates a full record of
the course, including student information such as grades and discussion
contributions. It is useful
for keeping track of student interactions should you need to access them
again.
Please note, to access the archived course, you should please contact
Helpdesk.
- Exporting a course exports the elements that you choose to export, such
as documents and tests. It is useful for reusing the content
(documents, links, etc.) of a course.
- Both processes are similar.
Archiving
Archiving is very similar to exporting. The Archive course tool is accessed
under
Control Panel > Course Options > Archive Course.
When you click on this link, you get a similar screen to the one above. The
difference between the two is that with Exporting, you can choose the elements
to export. Archiving assumes you want the entire course including student
information. Just like with exporting, you click the link which brings up
a save dialog box. Save the file. You may then bring this zip file to
Blackboard Team to restore it when you need to access the full version
of your course.
- Click Archive Course in the Control Panel

- Click the Archive Button
- Click Submit
- The next screen will explain to you that once the archive is ready, you will be notified by e-mail. Once you receive the e-mail, you may then go back to the Export/Archive Manager screen and download the Archive .zip

- Save the file to your local computer.
