Blackboard now has a built in Syllabus creator. Following these steps, you can begin using the Blackboard Syllabus builder.
Creating a Syllabus
From Control Panel:
- Click on desired Content Areas (Syllabus, Materials, Assignments, Resources).
- Look at the right top of the screen to find a pull-down list. Click
on it and select Syllabus and hit Go.
- Type in the name of the Syllabus.
- Choose to Create New Syllabus or simply choose Use existing file and skip using the Blackboard Syllabus builder.
- Hit Submit.

Filling in the Syllabus' Sections
On the next page you will be able to fill in three separate Syllabus sections. By default, these are named Description, Learning Objectives, and Required Materials, although you may change these.
- Fill in the three sections of the Syllabus.
- Under Syllabus Design, choose between Document Image, Notepad, Modern, Classic, Contemporary, or None. These options will only stylize your syllabus.
- Under Build Lessons choose to either create Build Lessons or not. These Build Lessons can replace the "Weekly Schedule" covered in a paper syllabus.
- Click Submit
Building Lessons
- Choose Modify next to the lesson you wish to change.
- From here you may fill in a Lesson Title, a Lesson Date and Time, and a Lesson Description.
- Click Submit
