Oncea new course has been created in Blackboard 9, some faculty may want to reuse the same materials from a previous quarter. When in Blackboard (Bb) 7, the faculty will simply perform a Course Copy process, since both source course and destination course are in the same Bb 7 environment.
However, with having a new course in Blackboard 9, some faculty may want to be able to reuse the materials from a course in Bb 7. Below is step-by-step guides on how to export course materials or contents from a Bb 7 course to a Bb 9 course.
Note: The steps below will not automatically export the course files stored in the Content Collection space. If you would like the files in the Content Collection space to be exported to Bb 9, please request us to process it for you. The request form is available at http://www.csupomona.edu/~elearning/form_blackboard-lmsrequest.shtml. Once we have received the request form, we will export the course materials along with the Content Collection files.
In Blackboard 7
- Click the course you want the materials to export
- Click Control Panel
- Click Export Course within the Course Options section
- Click the Export button
- Choose any elements you wish to include in the export process
Note: For best results, please select all elements to include in the export process.
- Click Submit
- Wait until you receive an automated email notification
- Once you have received the notification via email, go back to the course in Blackboard 7
- Click Control Panel
- Click Export Course within the Course Options section
- Click the “ExportFile…” link to download the export zip file
- Save the zip file to your local computer
Note: Please make sure the zip file does not get unzipped automatically when you're saving it.

In Blackboard 9
- Click the course you want the materials to import
- Within the Control Panel section, click on Packages and Utilities
- Click Import Package/View Logs
- Click the Import Package button
- Browse for the zip file that you already saved in your local computer
- Select any elements you wish to import
Note: For best results, select all elements to import. You will be able to delete any unnecessary materials after the import process is complete.
- Click Submit
- Wait until you receive an automated email notification
- Once you have received the notification via email, go back to the course in Blackboard 9 and check the imported materials. Note: Generally, the import process does not overwrite any other materials that you have in the destination course; it simply adds to your existing materials. You may need to do a little cleanup or rearranging after the import process is complete.
