An academic conference for MA students in EFL held annually in Spring quarter, after MA comprehensive examinations.
Students from all three MA options (Literature, Rhet/Comp, and TESL) present brief scholarly papers or presentations (12 minutes each). The symposium is organized in concurrent panels of three presenters each. Roughly 25 students choose to present their work annually.
Proposals are accepted for individual, pairs, and group presentations, as well as for entire three-paper panels dealing with thematically similar topics.
Presenting your work in a scholarly forum adds to your CV, builds confidence, and sparks continuing interest in shared scholarship. Employers and PhD programs love to see signs of this kind of professionalization.
Students interested in presenting should submit a title to the symposium organizer near the end of May each year. Students who are not presenting are urged to attend. For more information, please contact the department.
