1. How long does the Educational Leadership Program take?
Typically the Tier I and Tier II programs are completed in four quarters (a year including summer school) but they can take up to 2 years to complete.
2. What are the Fees for Graduate Students?

3. What is considered "full-time" for a Graduate student?
Graduate students are considered full-time by enrolling in 6.1 or more quarter units.
4. What time are most Graduate classes held?
Most graduate classes are held in the evening beginning at 4pm and are offered Monday through Thursday. There are other configurations of courses that include Friday/Saturday, online, and hybrid offerings.
5. What is the GWT (graduate writing test)? And who has to take it?
The GWT is required for ALL students who are earning a degree from the Cal State University (CSU) system. If you are seeking a credential only, you are not required to take the GWT. If you received your undergraduate degree from a CSU school, you will need to show proof that you have passed the GWT. 6. Do I have to take the Graduate Record Exam (GRE)?
The GRE is no longer required for the Master of Arts in Education program. However, if you are preparing to enter the doctoral program, the GRE is required. Be sure to take time to prepare. You cannot start too early.
7. Are on-line courses available?
We have some online courses that are program-specific. You will need to check with the program coordinator or your advisor. We offer hybrid courses, which often meet fewer times while the rest of the course is taught on-line.
8. How do I apply for Graduation?
You will need to apply for graduation, on-line through your Bronco Direct account. Therefore, no direct web link can be provided. Check with your advisor, our graduate office, or the University Graduate Studies website for additional advice on when to apply for graduation.
9. What is the difference between a Project and a Thesis?
A thesis is a paper written about original research you conduct. You may do research or inquiry on your teaching practices, the impact of administrative changes, student performance or any topic in which you are curious. To determine your research topic and scope of work, you must work closely with your thesis advisor.
A project is typically the development of something that has not been done before. It might be a handbook on how to implement a unique program, a particular way of reaching children that is research-based, etc. There are many possibilities for a project. Talk to your advisor about your work to help determine if a thesis or project is best for you.
10. Can I take time off from completing my program?
Yes, you can take up to 2 consecutive quarters off without having to fill out a Leave of Absence petition. If you need more than 2 quarters of, you will need to fill out a Leave of Absence petition. Students can take up to 8 consecutive quarters off with a Leave of Absence. Scroll down on the University's Forms and Services page to find the Leave of Absece Form.
