As they say, this is where the rubber meets the road. This is the time your professional preparation program where you demonstrate what you have learned and apply it to the classroom under the supervision and support of a cooperating teacher and a university supervisor. Enjoy this time as you may never have this level of professional support and guidance at any other time in your career.
This is also the longest interview in which you will ever engage. Be professional in every sense of the word. All eyes are on you. Learn and grow into excellence for all the children you will impact and for yourself as a professional educator.
Clinical Practice generally is a two quarter sequence. There are very specific expectations including meeting all the California Teaching Performance Expectations (TPEs). All the forms and expectations are provided for you in a link to the right. You might even take time to learn what your cooperating teacher and university supervisor are provided as support for you. Please become familiar with the expectations. And remember, we want you to be able demonstrate that you are able to focus on student learning.
THANK YOU for being willing to host a Cal Poly Pomona Teacher Candidate in your room. We know that sometimes it is difficult to turn your classroom over to someone else, especially a novice teacher. But we know that you are committed to continue to provide excellent educational experiences for your students and the students to come. You will have a significant impact on the development of our teacher candidate. Thank you for mentoring, guiding, and supporting a new professional colleague. All the forms and information can be found by clicking on the link on the right side of this page.
This is your time. You are the link between the university and the school site. We look to you to being able to help our school partners understand the state requirements for teacher candidates as well as guiding and supporting the teacher candidate while completing the Clinical Practice experience. You are the eyes of the university in insuring that our candidate has the best possible experience and forges a strong bond with the cooperating teacher. You are the quality control agent that coaches and holds our teacher candidate to meeting the TPEs. You, too, are a critical component to the program. The link to the right contains all the forms you will need.
