FIVE-YEAR LABORATORY REVITALIZATION PLAN (2003-2008)Electrical and Computer Engineering DepartmentCal Poly Pomona |
Overview As a polytechnic university one of our main objectives is to provide out students with hands-on experience. The ECE department offers a laboratory course with almost every lecture course in order to provide our students with a thorough understanding of the underlying engineering theory. Our graduates have consistently been hired, in part, due to their hands-on training, which makes them quite productive. To maintain this trend we need to acquire additional laboratory equipment and design tools. This document constitutes the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department's Five-Year Laboratory Development Plan. It is organized by physical laboratory rooms, as opposed to being organized by laboratory courses. However, each laboratory room is discussed in the context of the lab courses offered within that room. For each laboratory room a faculty is designated as the lab director. The courses offered in that room are listed. The square footage of each room is noted, along with the number of students served by the room on an annual basis (when appropriate). Comments or suggestions on this plan may be sent to Professor Kathleen Hayden , Department Chair. Lab Revitalization Funding:A key component to any lab plan is its identification of the paths to take to acquire needed resources. We have traditionally pursued, and will continue to pursue, the following approaches to equipment acquisition:
