International Foodservice Executives Association
Cal Poly Pomona Student Chapter
The student chapter of the International Foodservice Executives
Association (IFSEA) exists for the betterment of continued education
and networking opportunities for students at California State
Polytechnic University, Pomona in the foodservice industry.
The International Food Service Executives Association, America's
1st hospitality association, since 1901, places a great deal of
emphasis, and not a few of its dollars, on student programs.
Diverse representation is a big plus for students wishing
to learn about, and make contacts in the hospitality industry.
IFSEA members include F&B managers, chefs, purchasing agents,
educators, consultants, etc.
IFSEA offers branch and regional scholarships, typically $500
each. A new certification program, Certified Food Manager (CFM)
gives credit for your work experience and education completed
to date (even if you have not graduated), and some students with
prior work backgrounds may already qualify. Annual Student Conferences,
held last on Carnival's Ecstasy and next places like Reno, Denver,
Orlando, and New Orleans.
Membership as low as $40 for 4 years gains the student 1 free
year of senior IFSEA membership upon graduation, plus the next
3 years at 1/2 price. Students can belong through existing branches,
or they can start one, or be a member at large.
IFSEA has some 3,500 members and 90 senior and student branches
throughout the world. Its programs include support of excellence
in military food services; Certified Food Executive and Certified
Food Manager programs; and scholarships for hospitality students.
It is the leading industry source of hospitality books from all
publishers, and has industry job descriptions and food cost software
available.
