Piano
The piano is a keyboard instrument distinguised by the unique set of
keys that players press. The keys are organized from left to right (lowest
to highest) according to a set of pitches that comprise the chromatic scale.
Other types of jazz keyboard instruments like the electric piano, Fender
Rhodes piano, organ, and vibraphone also use this organization of keys.
The modern piano has a range of a little over seven octaves. The player
can sound a large number of notes simultaneously and vary their loudness
by changing the force with which the keys are struck. A jazz pianist can
provide harmony (chords), melody (soloing), and rhythm (comping).
