David Grasmick Header

David Grasmick, Professor of Music at Cal Poly University, Pomona, is a Nebraska native.  He attended the university of Nebraska, Lincoln, where he received his Bachelor of Music in Education and Masters of Music degrees. Professor Grasmick has also taken postgraduate coursework for the Doctorate of the Arts Degree at the University of Northern Colorado and for the DMA degree at Claremont Graduate School.

David’s most influential trumpet teachers have been Dennis Schneider, John Kendrick, James Stamp and Bernard Adelstein. As a chamber musician David has performed with the University of Nebraska Faculty Brass Quintet, the Heidelberg Brass Trio, and the Inland Empire Brass Quintet. He has been principal trumpet in the Lincoln and Omaha, Nebraska, Symphony Orchestras, the Inland Empire Symphony, the Redlands Symphony and the Riverside Symphony Orchestras.  

David’s trumpet students have won undergraduate and graduate scholarships to Long Beach State, Pepperdine University, and USC. Many are very successful Jr High. and High School Teachers in California.  

David also completed coursework in Educational Technology at Cal Poly and has Computer and Multimedia Certificates. He was a core instructor in the College of Letters Arts and Sciences Digital Media Arts program and continues to teach for the Graduate Multimedia Major. 

David was one of the first Cyberprofs and was featured in Cal Poly’s “In Celebration of Learning” as an outstanding faculty member dedicated to the honorable vocation of teacher/scholar using technology.  

He has designed and taught 3 online courses entitled “Jazz and Beyond” and “Music Appreciation” and "Music Fundamentals". David’s multimedia projects include: “Ragtime”, “Bebop Jazz”, “Louis Armstrong an American Genius”, and “Instruments of the Orchestra.” He has also co-produced and performed numerous concerts on the “Digital Music Series” at Cal Poly.  

David’s other awards and recognitions are the President’s Meritorious Performance Award, Professor Emeritus, Computer Educators Conferences, Classroom Connect Conference, Web Design Workshops, Cal Poly SWIM (Summer Web Institute and Mentoring) instructor, SYLLABUS Web Workshop Facillitator, ITL Technology Helping Teaching and Learning Workshop, Co-Facilitator Dreamweaver Faculty Development Workshop. 

His interests oustide the University are his faith, family and his work as managing parter of Allegro Businss Forms and Homework on Wheels.
