Waived Hours Policy

Individuals who have been accepted into the Dietetic Internship at Cal Poly Pomona and who have (1) completed a CADE accredited Dietetic Technician program or (2) who have worked as dietetic technicians/dietary supervisors, may apply for consideration of credit for their prior learning. Credit/hours may be waived for interns who have demonstrated priorcompetence in specific aspects of the dietetic internship curriculum.


Procedure:

1. An intern who has previously completed a Dietetic Technician program must submit documentation that includes, but is not limited to, the following:

a. Portfolio describing supervised practice activities completed while in the Program.
b. Description of specific assignments that meet the competencies required in the
Dietetic Internship at Cal Poly Pomona.
c. Letter of recommendation from the Dietetic Technician Program Director.

2. Interns who have worked as dietetic technicians, but have not completed the technician training may also apply for assessment of prior learning. The following criteria must be met and documented in a portfolio.

a. Minimum 5 years part-time (20 hrs/week) work experience as a dietetic technician.
b. Adequate documentation demonstrating that a higher level of responsibility has been practiced.
c. Description of specific responsibilities that may meet the competencies required in
the Dietetic Internship at Cal Poly Pomona.
d. Letter of recommendation from immediate work supervisors.

4. A maximum of 150 hours may be waived by the Review Committee.
