Mission Statement

The Mission of the Human Nutrition and Food Science Department, working in collaboration with alumni, community and industry, is to provide quality education to baccalaureate and post-baccalaureate students and to prepare them to be competent, ethical professionals in their chosen careers. The vision statement of the Department is that graduates will significantly impact on the health and well-being of members of society.

The Mission of the Dietetic Internship is to enhance the quality of the educational experience by integrating knowledge and performance requirements in a planned sequence of learning activities consistent with the Standards of Practice for dietitians. Entry-level dietetic practitioners are thereby empowered with professional competencies vital to quality dietetic practice.

 

PROGRAM GOALS

  1. To prepare interns to be competent entry-level practitioners through the application of knowledge acquired in course work to the practical setting in both administration and nutritional care;
  2. To prepare interns to assume positions in a variety of career opportunities within the profession;
  3. To maintain at least a 95% first-time pass rate on the registration examination.

 

LEARNING OUTCOMES

  1. Graduates will be able to apply knowledge acquired in course work to the practical setting in both administration and nutritional care;

  2. Graduates will be able to advise and counsel clients in real-life settings;

  3. Graduates will successfully pass the Registration Exam;

  4. Employers will be satisfied with the work of program graduates.


The Dietetic Internship follows the Baccalaureate degee and completion of required coursework. Once interns complete the Dietetic Internship, they are eligible to sit for the Examination to become a Registered Dietitian.

 

ACCREDITATION STATUS

The Dietetic Internship at Cal Poly Pomona is currently granted Accreditation by the Commission on Accreditation for Dietetic Education (CADE) of The American Dietetic Association, 120 Riverside Plaza, Suite 2000, Chicago, ILL 60606-6995, 312/899-4876.
