A Note to Queer Students on National Coming Out Day

It is too bad we had to have our celebration picketed and our hillside insignia defaced. However, there are a few things to note about people who do these things and their ideas.

Firstly, the psychological literature indicates that the most homophobic people, the ones that hate and fear us the most, are likely to be gay themselves, except twisted with self-hatred or so deeply hidden that they don't realize it. No wonder they advocate against sex education in school, so everyone can be as confused as they are. They are obsessed with us. Queen Gertrude says in Hamlet, "The lady doth protest too much, methinks." The principle is easy to understand: if you are getting really worked up about something other people are doing, maybe you want to be doing it yourself. Or, if you go overboard on something (finding cheating everywhere, frightened and suspicious of others), perhaps you are actually dishonest or untrustworthy.

In any event, such people clearly have something wrong with them, whether it is a sexual or other kind of deviance. After all, look at what god has done for the guy who was heckling us! Either he has no job or leaves his job in the middle of the day to spoil something for some harmless students. He isn't very handsome or charismatic, and I have it on good authority that if you don't have looks or money in the straight world, you don't have much. Brains were not in evidence, either. So, get a life, mister, or at least an education.

If heaven is full of "Christians" like him, GIVE ME HELL. They don't follow anything else in their Bible, but when it comes to gay people, they're pulling that Bible out every two seconds to whack us with it, even though there are a total of three or four passages that say anything about homosexuality, and plenty of scholars don't think it's about that at all. I don't care what the Bible says, or what they think it says. The Bible has nothing to do with civil law, any more than the Bhagavad Gita or the Hymn of Osiris. It is amazing to me that anybody wants to follow the god of hate and blood depicted in that Book they worship. They're worried about whether the violence in society comes from hip-hop music or certain ethnic groups; well, maybe they don't have to look too far from home to find its source.

They have messed up their own institution of marriage with spousal abuse, neglect or abandonment of children, high divorce rates, casual multiple liaisons, child marriage, infidelity, etc., etc., not us. You'd think they had made marriage into a safe harbor for women, children, and men, through which the best traditions of society are passed on, family relations are supported, and individuals grow spiritually and in all ways. Well, hahahahahahaha. It has become as corrupt, opportunistic, and isolating as the rest of our social fabric. Yet let queers try to get some of the legal, moral, and material privileges it confers, and they act like we are defiling the holiest of holies.

Queer youth, don't let these nimrods bother you. Their vision of the world is tiny, scared, and mean. Live your lives. Love each other.
