ANT 102 Cultural Anthropology Dr. Dorothy D. Wills
Cal Poly Pomona Winter, 2004

Final Exam

Answer the following essay questions. Due: Tuesday, March 16th.

1. You are an applied anthropologist working in one (pick one) of the following settings:

a. a government anti-terrorist agency,
b. a non-governmental organization focusing on rural development in a third world country (pick one),
c. a public health organization,
d. a school in an inner city,
e. a grassroots environmental activist group, or
f. a United Nations service for women and children.

What kinds of subjects and/or problems will you be facing in this work? What kinds of actions might you undertake, including communications, education, meetings, events, etc.? What are the most significant ideas, approaches, and examples you will bring to your work from anthropology? Use your imagination and be specific. Draw from your homework assignments, readings, and/or class information.

2. Discuss what you have learned, if anything, from each of your homework assignments and in-class exercises (such as the group project), including research principles and specific concepts. If you didn't feel you learned anything from doing something, explain why (for instance, you already knew about the subject, or you didn't understand the procedure, or whatever). Be critical, of your procedures, of the projects, of the subject matter.
