You are going to conduct a NON-PARTICIPANT observation of a small group interaction. Preferably, the group does not consist of people well known to you. However, you may not have a lot of choice. You will observe their interaction for at least 30 minutes, taking notes on:
- appearance of members,
- apparent roles and relationships of members,
- sequence of events, and what specifically happens,
- language and mannerisms,
- any conclusions or impressions you have about what is going on, and what you are basing this on.
If your notes are messy, rewrite them to turn in as a few paragraphs. Bullets are okay, too. If your notes are easily comprehensible and well organized, you may turn them in.
