"Hold's" Negative Service Indicators

A negative service indicator (hold) is placed on a student's record if there is an unmet university obligation. The negative service indicator can be removed by fulfilling the obligation with the specified office. As an example, the negative service indicator may be for grades, financial obligations, health related, or lab fees.

There are also positive service indicators such as scholarships received.

Permission Numbers

  • Permission numbers are used to manage enrollment exceptions. Permission numbers are randomly generated and can only be used by the student for the assigned class.
  • A specific permission numbers can only be used once. If an error occurs with its use, the student must obtain a new permission number.
  • Students should clear all holds before attempting to register using a permission number.
  • If a student has a hold that prevents registration, but attempts to register with a permission number, the hold will prevent the registration and the permission number is voided.
  • There are three different types of permission numbers :
      1. Generic -- used by the Registrar's Office to override class size.
      2. Departmental -- used to override some guidelines for enrollment.
These permission numbers can be issued by the Academic Advisor with authorization from the instructor.
      3. Student Specific -- restricted to special needs such as consent of instructor, prerequisites, and Honors courses. These permission numbers can be issued by the instructor or by the Academic Advisor with authorization from the instructor.
