CSUEU –Chapter 319 Executive-Board Meeting Friday, February 1, 2008 Minutes Holiday Luncheon (Overview Discussion) Decided to book December 16th from 10:00am to 3:00pm. We will set up from 8:00am to 10:00am. ACTION ITEM: Loretta to schedule with Bronco Student Center as soon as possible. In Range Progressions Campaign – Rocky & Kris Table Workshop will take place at the Quad on Tuesday, February 19th from 1:30– 1:30 p.m. Rocky Sanchez will be working on the February 19th table with Deborah Campbell and Christine Thomas. Union Leave will be used. ACTION ITEM: Rocky will send sample of handouts she used to get her in-range progression. She will send to Deborah first for final approval. ACTION ITEM: Vaughn Lucas will email copy of handouts to the list serve. Last week Deborah, Vicky, Brenda met with Human Resources. This meeting was Brenda’s opportunity to introduce herself as Chapter 319’s new Labor Relations Representative. We took the opportunity to inform Human Resources Pomona will be kicking off the IRP campaign. Sharon Reiter mentioned they have notified all the departments. The Chancellor’s office has not yet determined how much IRP dollars will be disbursed for each campus. No February Chapter Meeting Since we will be working in the quad on February 19th, there will not be a February Chapter Meeting. Unit 5 Meeting – IRP Campaign Custodians are scheduled to meet 8:00–9:00 a.m. on Friday, February 22nd. Ground workers are scheduled to meet on the same day from 11:00 a.m. –12:00 noon. Housing is yet to be determined. Deborah wants to coordinate with Reggie and their ten members. ACTION ITEM: Reggie to inform Deborah of the date. CSUEU Lobby Day - Vicky Lobby Day to take place on Monday, March 3 & Tuesday March 4, 2008, at the Sheraton Grand Hotel in Sacramento, CA. Deborah, Rocky and Vicky will be attending. Focus of the visit will be the large budget cuts. Deborah noticed that on the Union letter to all members it was mentioned that we will all be working together. Some smaller CSU campuses are worried about the layoffs due to their small sizes. President Ortiz is requesting reimbursement money to be returned. This will affect our Union Leave. President Ortiz has the right to take the money and is willing to give back 50%. It is not clear how he will redistribute the money. CSUEU BOD Conference Call Thursday, January 31, 2008 – Vicky was the alternate attendee for the Board of Directors conference call. She stated it was interesting. Remind everybody that today is your last day to get in your registration to attend Lobby Day. CSUEU BOD Meeting The CSUEU Board of Directors will meet at the Holiday Inn Saturday, March 15th through Sunday, March 16th in Sacramento, CA Deborah Campbell will be attending as President, Rocky will be representing Unit 7, Christine will be working with the Policy File Committee, and Vicky, Chair, Legislative Committee will be attending. If anyone is available to attend, you will be attending at your own expense unless we get money to attend. Announcements Christine, Deborah and Brenda met to discuss to establish an Organizing Committee. They are looking at the current Chapter structure. San Marcos has a really good Communication Committee. Planning a luncheon at Los Olivos or Kellogg West for those who may be interested in the CSUEU Union. Start thinking about who can be a potential activist. Brenda announced there is a Stewards Training Session at CSU Northridge on February 15 and 16. Chapter Leave request expires in 6 days or you will have to use your vacation. Brenda met with Human Resources to discuss the In Range Progression campaign. She asked how they would like her to address issues from the departments. One issue was the Leads and how they are perceived in the process. Brenda will send them a copy of work expectations letter and follow up. She will be the one who brings attention to these topics to Human Resources. Leads cannot exceed what the contract says. Leads don’t have the authority to approve vacations or Union Leave. Human Resources clearly understood and Brenda will follow up. We can resolve issues. Basically understand issues and concerns and we will go to Human Resources first. Human Resources will then contact the department. Deborah and Vicky spoke very well about the issues. Phase 2 is to send letter to President Ortiz to let them know the CSUSU Union and to contact the Executive Board. Brenda added she observed Chapter 319 to be an organized and well rounded group. Historically President Ortiz has been very cordial. Vaughn announced reading Article 15.2 with regards to voting and taking the 2 hours leave time. He sent an email to the listserve. Remember you will have to give 2 days notice and it has to be used only if it is a hardship to the voter to commute, pick up their children, etc. and make it home in time to vote. Jeni Watanabe – Orientation Services Discussion to place with the board regarding Jeni Watanabe from Orientation Services; Jeni wants to attend the luncheon to present and speak on behalf of (Student Orientations Leaders); it was voted to have Jeni give the flyers to the chapter president and the board will distribute the flyers. CSUEU Executive Board Meeting – Crowne Plaza Hotel – Friday, November 16, 2007 Deborah Campbell Chapter President talked briefly regarding the upcoming BOD meeting in November; the discussion center on committees and an invite was given to the board it they choose to attend the BOD meeting on Saturday for those who are not on committees. In Range Progressions Campaign Rocky Sanchez unit 7 reprehensive and Christine Thomas (Chief Steward) discussed the upcoming In Range Progressions Campaign Workshops. The e-board indicated it is important to have a special chapter meeting for the unit 5 employees so they will be knowledge about the IRP campaign. The board asked, if Rocky would invite Nancy Kobta from Fresno to speak to the Pomona chapter at the next meeting in January 2008. Rally – Chancellor’s Office – Tuesday, November 13, 2007 A brief discussion took place about the Rally at the Chancellor’s Office, and who would like to attend the Rally in November.
