When you read about UNIX, keep in mind that some commands you read about will not work on your Cal Poly, Pomona Intranet account. The following specifics are important when det ermining which information applies to you:

The shell you are using is called the tcshell (unless you change it) The cshell commands should work, but many Bourne and Korn shell commands will not.

The Solaris version of UNIX you are using is based on System V Release 4 (not BSD)

The chmod and quota commands have been replaced.

UNIXhelp for users gives an extensive amount of information, but you must remember the specifics above to determine which commands will work on your Intranet account
