The focus Wisdom Week is on our current student population… our future. The Department of Landscape Architecture is looking to our Alumni to create a dialog and share their gained wisdom with our current students in an active and participatory setting. The department is pleased that a number of Alumni and Alumni led firms are hosting our students in their offices, cities, and the field in order to promote an enriched exchange between practitioners and students.
All events will take place between April 23rd and April 25th.
All students should arrive a minimum of 15 minutes early to each event in order to insure on time arrival. Please represent Cal Poly Pomona Department of Landscape Architecture in the utmost fashion, as we are sure you will. Have fun, take lots of pictures and make new contacts!
SWA Group Laguna Beach, CA
Will be taking students to on a four-hour fieldtrip - “Community Planning in Southern California” – Woodbridge, Shady Canyon, Woodbury, And a lecture on “Designing the City; A Landscape Architect’s perspective.
Department of Parks, Recreation and Marine Long Beach, California
Will be taking students for a multi-day charrette. Ride around LB on bikes with cameras and sketchbooks along the LARIO trail, LA River and San Gabriel River. Receive a briefing from Parks, Recreation and Marine on relevant issues and make presentations.
Ah’be Landscape Architects Culver City, CA
Students will help Ah’be install their 5th annual landscape/art installation. Students will assist with the building, layout and potentially recreate the annual event, tentatively called “The Forest.” Materials include shredded paper, wire, paint, flooring and garden gnome.
Ah’be Landscape Architects would also like to extend an open invitation to anyone and everyone for the opening of the installation on April 26th. The installation will be at MODAA [8609 Washington Blvd., Culver City, 90232] beginning at 5:30pm.

Will be sponsoring graduate students in their Downtown office for 3 days of site visits, discussion, research, planning and critical thinking. Field trips include trip to SWA’s historic renovation and streetscape project at the Herald Examiner Building in the South Park District, meeting with the CRA for an inside scoop on LA’s proposed streetscape plan, a charrette with one of the LEED’s first accredited landscape architects on green design in L.A.

Will be sponsoring students for a half-day demonstration of creativity and evolution of projects in a landscape architecture firm. Activities include tour of office with interactive discussion of client vision creative solutions and realistic limitation of budgets. Includes lunch and field trip to a major project site.

Will sponsor students for a day of touring local project(s) under construction and a comprehensive office visit.

Cicada is offering two places of internship for a period of 3 months in Singapore as part of the 50th Anniversary of the Department. Each intern will be given $1,000 per month. Cicada will pay airfare, however, interns will be responsible for their own accommodations.

Activities: Students will accompany Mark Hall to investigate how the irrigation industry relates to the landscape industry. As a student and a future landscape architect, what do you need to know to work fluently with the irrigation industry? This learning model will address this issue, along with providing a 'hands-on' opportunity to participate in an installation of an irrigation system and an historic landscape design at the Richard and Dion Neutra VDL Research House II in Silver Lake.
