Graduation Requirements

General questions about graduation requirements, applying for graduation and deadlines are available on the Registrar’s Office web site.

At the end of the spring quarter, if you have 8 or less units remaining please visit the Commencement Participation web site.

Specific questions about graduation requirements, such as remaining classes an individual student needs to take, should be addressed to the individual’s evaluator in the Registrar’s Office.

Cap and Gown Purchase

Caps and gowns will be available beginning (date TBD) during the GRAD FAIR '13 and through June 13th at the main register counter at the Bronco Bookstore:

  • Bachelor's Complete = Price to be determined
  • Master's Complete = Price to be determined
  • Master's Hood Only = Price to be determined
  • Extra Tassel = Price to be determined
  • Cal Poly Pomona Class of 2013 Sash = Price to be determined

“Complete” includes cap, gown, and tassel. Master’s also includes the hood.

Bookstore Schedule :

  • Monday thru Thursday 7:45 am to 6:30 pm
Friday 9:00 am to 2:00 pm

For those who like the thrill of waiting until the last minute, caps and gowns are also available in limited quantities and sizes at the Campus Center Marketplace on June 8 through 10, starting about two hours prior to the ceremonies.

These caps and gowns are the ONLY outer attire allowed for graduates. It is not an all-weather garment; inclement weather may damage clothing worn underneath. The attire is all black and quite warm, so plan your clothing under the gown accordingly.

Honors Cord

A gold cord worn around the neck of the gown signifies baccalaureate graduation with academic honors. Cal Poly Pomona grants honors upon graduation to students who have demonstrated academic excellence throughout their undergraduate careers.

Those receiving master's degrees are not eligible for honors.

Honors apply to undergraduate students who graduate with an overall grade point average of at least 3.50. Spring Quarter candidates must have had a minimum overall GPA of 3.50 based on Winter Quarter grades. Everyone who earns honors at graduation will have that designation noted on their diploma.  The honors are:

  • Summa Cum Laude: 3.80 - 4.00
  • Magna Cum Laude: 3.65 - 3.79
  • Cum Laude: 3.50 - 3.64

Honors cords, which are available for no additional fee, may be obtained at the Registrar's Office beginning (Date to be determined). Photo identification is required to obtain the cord and they will not be issued to those who are "summer walks." For questions about honors cords, please call 909-869-4900.

Disability Resource Center

Senior Portraits

Studio 94 Photography is Cal Poly Pomona's senior portrait specialist. The studio will take 5 images in professional attire and 5 in cap & gown. To make an appointment call (877) 363-9690 or visit www.studio-94.com. Their studio is located in Fullerton.

Animals at Commencement

While we are happy for guests who utilize guide animals to bring their important companions to commencement, it is inappropriate for animals not trained to deal with large crowds, noise, and confusion to be part of the celebration. California State Law prohibits leaving an animal inside a confined vehicle, so for the safety and comfort of the animals and our guests, it is important that pets be left at home http://www.animallaw.info/articles/qvuspetsincars.htm. We’re sorry, but guests who insist on bringing pets to the ceremonies will be asked to leave immediately. No exceptions will be made for graduates or guests.

Line Up

Participants in commencement ceremonies should be in the designated line-up area at the time listed below.  Cards which will allow you to provide us with your name (and how to pronounce it), mailing address, and email address (for sending you proofs of your photos) will be provided on-site.  Sign-in at the registration table near the front of the line, complete your card, and then line-up by major, four students across.   You will present the card to an assistant just prior to going on stage to receive your diploma jacket.

Commencement Photos

Professional photographers will take three photos of each graduate. Two are posed photos just prior to ascending the stage, while the third is as the graduate shakes hands on stage. The photographer is positioned just off-stage for the perfect shot of your graduate's proud moment. Proofs will be mailed to each graduate shortly after the ceremony to be considered for purchase. You do not need to sign up for this service in advance; every candidate and graduate will have their photograph taken on stage. There is no obligation to purchase any of these photos.
