Lisa McPheron is the director of communications & external relations for The Collins College of Hospitality Management at Cal Poly Pomona. Since joining the college in May 2008, she has overseen the launch of Collins, the college's magazine, which is now in its seventh issue. Her work also includes: media relations; social media; development; speech writing; video production; website redesigns; internal and emergency communications, and alumni relations.
In the fall of 2011, she also began managing the CSU Hospitality Management Education Initiative, which works to promote hospitality management programs at 14 CSU campuses and build stronger bonds between academia and the industry.
Prior to joining The Collins College, McPheron was the senior communications specialist for Cal Poly Pomona's Office of Public Affairs. Before pursuing a career in higher education public affairs, McPheron was a journalist at the Inland Valley Daily Bulletin in Ontario and the Press-Enterprise in Riverside. She covered a variety of beats including higher education, city and county government, and crime.
McPheron graduated from Cal State Fullerton in 2001 with a bachelor's degree in American studies and a bachelor's degree in communications with an emphasis in journalism. She earned a master's degree in communications at Cal State Fullerton in 2010.
