Harvest Celebration 2009: Honoring Hospitality Industry Leaders While Raising Funds for Collins College Students (Nov. 16, 2009)
The Collins College of Hospitality Management at Cal Poly Pomona will host Harvest Celebration 2009 on Saturday, Nov. 21 to honor top leaders in the hospitality industry while raising money for students inside and outside the classroom. The celebration will take place at the Renaissance Hollywood Hotel & Spa. The Collins College is pleased to announce that Jay Rasulo, Chairman of Walt Disney Parks and Resorts, will receive the Hospitality Leader of the Year Award; Steve Slater, Vice President & General Manager of Southern Wine & Spirits of Southern California, will be honored with the Robert Mondavi Wine & Food Award; and Margaret Bailey, Senior Vice President of Government Services for Capital Hotel Management, will receive the college’s Distinguished Alumni of the Year Award.
Visitor Industry Outlook Conference Will Tackle Tough Questions About the Economy (Oct. 22, 2009)
As the economy reels from the ongoing recession, learn how the Southern California tourism industry is faring and hear predictions for 2010 at the 21st annual Southern California Visitor Industry Outlook Conference. Cal Poly Pomona’s Collins College of Hospitality Management and PKF Consulting are partnering again to host the conference on Friday, Oct. 30, at the Pasadena Convention Center. This year’s event is “Where? When? & How Long?”
Save the Date: Harvest Celebration 2009 (Oct. 9, 2009)
The Collins College of Hospitality Management is putting a new spin on an old tradition. On Saturday, Nov. 21, the college will host Harvest Celebration 2009 at the Renaissance Hollywood Hotel & Spa. The fundraising celebration is reminiscent of the Harvest Auction, but will take on a new format. The college will continue to award the Robert Mondavi Wine & Food Award, in addition to presenting the new Hospitality Leader of the Year award and the college’s 2010 distinguished alumnus. Proceeds from the event will support hospitality management students inside and outside the classroom.

Cal Poly Pomona’s inaugural vintage of Horsehill Vineyards Zinfandel Rosé won the Gold Medal, Best of Class in the Best Rosé Limited Production category at the 70th annual Los Angeles International Wine & Spirits Competition. The 2008 Horsehill Vineyards Zinfandel received a bronze medal. The Collins College of Hospitality Management and the College of Agriculture partnered with master winemaker Jon McPherson at South Coast Winery in Temecula to produce and bottle the rosé for the university. CSU Launches Initiative To Bolster Hospitality & Restaurant Industry as Career Path for Students (June 9, 2009)
The California State University has initiated a Hospitality Industry Initiative that aims to provide an uninterrupted supply of hospitality and restaurant leaders in California. The initiative encourages strong ties among industry leaders and educators to prepare the next generation of managers and leaders for the industry and create excitement about career opportunities in hospitality.
Exploring the Chemistry of Wine (May 13, 2009)
A glass of wine is not just a glass of wine. It is the product of a long process that requires expertise from the fields of chemistry, viniculture and vinification. Enologist Dr. Ernie Simpson will present a guest lecture titled "Chemistry of Wine,” on Friday, May 22 from 10 a.m. to noon in The Collins College of Hospitality Management’s Wine Auditorium to explore the science that goes into making wine.
