17th Annual Hospitality Career Expo

The Collins College of Hospitality Management and the Cal Poly Pomona Career Center will host the 17th annual 2010 Hospitality Career Expo on Feb. 18, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. The expo is the college’s largest one-day event for students and alumni to gain exposure to numerous hospitality companies. The expo will take place at The Restaurant at Kellogg Ranch.

For Companies

This career fair is limited to 55 leading companies in the hospitality industry.  This expo can be quite popular and space is limited.

Early-bird registration ends Jan. 21. Once the early-bird registration deadline passes, the cost will increase from $375 ($200 for government/non-profit organizations) to $425 ($250 for government/non-profit organizations). There are several upcoming events that will help students prepare for the expo. Students should consider attending and participating in as many as their schedule permits to give themselves a competitive edge. This list will be updated as events are planned.   • Jan. 19 – Rock Your Resume - U-Hour, Career Center
  • Jan. 21 – Hire Me: Interviewing U-Hour, Career Center
  • Jan. 26 – How To Prep For The Career Expo U-Hour, Career Center
  • Feb. 4 – RESUMANIAC – Individual resume critiques by employers with on-the-spot feedback from 11 a.m. - 3 p.m. in 79A-1335 Hideo Amemiya Boardroom (first-come, first-served)
  • Feb. 5 – Resume CD Due Date – The Collins College provides a CD of students’ resumes for employers. Students, who would like to submit their resumes, must e-mail them to ajsmith@csupomona.edu by 5 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 5. Resumes should be saved as Word documents with the student’s last name first, followed by their first name. (eg. Disney.Walt.doc.) There will be no edits done to the resumes, and there will be no exceptions for late resumes.
  • Feb. 17– Darden Day – Several representatives from Darden Restaurants will be guest lecturing in classes.
  • Feb. 18 – Alumni Bagel Mixer – Dean Andy Feinstein and The Collins College Alumni Chapter will host a breakfast for alumni prior to the Hospitality Career Expo. The alumni mixer will start at 8:30 a.m. in the Amemiya Boardroom. E-mail ajsmith@csupomona.edu by Wednesday, Feb. 10 if you plan to attend the mixer.

    Business Cards For Students

    The Hospitality Management Council will be selling business cards once again this quarter. These cards will come in handy when Career Expo comes Feb. 18! Students will show their professionalism by having the official Cal Poly Pomona business card to give to potential employers. A box of 250 cards is $20. Those interested must fill in the form and turn it in at the drop box located at Desiree Baker's desk, located on the 2nd floor of Building 79B. Payments must be submitted once the order is picked up. HMC will submit orders on a weekly basis, every Monday. Contact Joshua Aldama at jhaldama@csupomona.edu for more details.
