Course Content
Detailed information concerning the material to be covered and a week to week schedule are provided in a separate hand-out. The actual material covered as well as an approximate time table are determined by Chemistry Department policy.

Grading
A percentage grading scale will be used. A breakdown of the grade categories is shown below. In determining your grade the percentage of all the available points will be used. In other words, one point on a quiz counts the same as one point on an exam or one point on a homework assignment. There are three areas in which you may accumulate points: tests, quizzes, homework.
Tests
There will be three mid-terms, each worth a total of 100 points. Each mid-term will emphasize the material discussed since the previous mid-term. These mid-terms will come at the end of the third, seventh, and tenth weeks ( last day of class ). In addition to the mid-terms there will be a final examination which will be cumulative in nature. The date and time of the final will be announced. It will be worth 200 points
Quizzes
Both announced and unannounced quizzes may be given. You will receive one week notice of announced quizzes. An unannounced quiz may come at any time obviously, however, there will be no more than one unannounced quiz during any single week. These quizzes will be worth 25 points each. There will likely be no more than five quizzes total.
Homework
Homework assignments will be made form time to time. Typically these will consist of about ten problems from the text and/or made up by the instructor. Usually only one of these problems will graded. You should, however, consider these assignments as a study aid in your preparation for exams etc.!

Bonus Points
You may receive a total of 15 points extra credit if you donate blood during the campus blood drive. If you can’t or choose not to actually donate blood yourself you may work as a volunteer for the blood drive committee for at least two hours to receive the same 15 points. If you choose to work as a volunteer you need to make suitable arrangements with those organizing the drive well in advance!

Missed Work
In general there will be no make-up exams or quizzes. If it is necessary for you to miss exams or quizzes for University recognized reasons you will need to make arrangements with the instructor preferably ahead of time. There will be a penalty of 50 % for homework submitted late. No homework will be accepted more than one week late.
