The distinct challenges that the Latin America region faces are related to economic, political, social, and business environments that prevail in countries in this region. There is evidence of unique innovations regarding the use of IT to face theses challenges. Consequently, Latin America is in a unique position to show us the relevance of adopting information technology in different regional contexts. Fortunately, a growing number of IT researchers in the region are promoting a transition toward more published studies over the relevance of IT in Latino America.

Organized in collaboration with the Latin American and Caribbean Association of Information Systems (LACAIS), the purpose of this mini track is to provide a forum for research that furthers our understanding of the use of information technology in Latin America both in the public and private sectors. This year we will accept papers of research in progress or complete in both languages: English and Spanish. In the case of papers in Spanish we will require an abstract in English. This year we have a special emphasis on the relevance of IT in the region. Other possible topics may include (but are not limited to) the following :

  • Electronic commerce in Latin America
  • Economic, social, or political aspects of information technology
  • Impact of regulation on IT development
