Partners In Education

pie-fellows-2014

Message from the Chair, Dr. Sue Johnson

As Cal Poly Pomona completes the 75th Anniversary, Partners in Education (PIE) has its own successes to celebrate as we complete our tenth year of supporting students, faculty, and staff at the University by advocating for quality education and educational development at Cal Poly Pomona and in the surrounding community. As we reflect on the past ten years, we are pleased to celebrate the impact in the lives of students, faculty, and staff.

The success of PIE's Sponsor a Future Teacher program is one way PIE has made a difference not only in the lives of Cal Poly Pomona students, but in the lives of countless elementary, middle, and high school students throughout the region. Sponsor a Future Teacher provides financial assistance to teacher candidates during their two-quarter classroom teaching assignments. Since its inception, this program has provided fellowships to over 90 future teachers, allowing them the opportunity to focus their energies in the profession to which they aspire. These fellowship recipients represent future teachers placed in a wide variety of grade levels and subjects, from kindergarten through sixth grade self-contained classrooms, special education settings, and single subject classrooms at the middle and high school levels. The PIE fellowships have made the difference between recipients continuing their teacher education and completing the credential program or not being able to pursue their career any further. But, most importantly, it has made a difference for countless children who will continue to be influenced by each of our recipients for years to come.

As we plan for 2014-15, the PIE Board is committed to raising funds for an additional eight fellowships. We are relying on our friends and business partners to make this goal a reality. The difference this fellowship makes in the lives of the Cal Poly Pomona teacher candidates selected as recipients is significant, but even more significant is the different this scholarship will make in the hundreds of children the future teachers will impact through their dedicated, passion, and commitment to the teaching profession.

Partners in Education is deeply grateful for the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of countless students in our community over the past ten years. We are also indebted to those who have contributed to our success in so many ways. Without the support of our partners and donors, none of this would be possible, so we thank you for your tremendous support. Our Successes are YOUR successes. As we celebrate our first decade, we hope to continue to make a tremendous impact on the Cal Poly Pomona community throughout the next ten years that will indeed last a lifetime!
