Preliminary SB2042 Single Subject Credential (Secondary)

Being a secondary teacher in the 21st century is an exciting and challenging profession. You will have the responsibility of preparing our most valuable resource-our children-for their future in college, career and beyond. Parents, families, and caregivers will rely on you to recognize and foster the talents within their children, and to adapt and modify curriculum and instruction to meet students' individual needs. The challenges of Common Core State Standards, changing demographics, our diverse student populations, and inclusion of students with special needs in the general education classroom, create unique possibilities never before faced by previous generations of teachers.

The Single Subject teaching credential authorizes public school teaching in a departmentalized classroom in PreK-12, and classes organized primarily for adults. The Bilingual Authorization (BL) [Spanish and Asian languages] option prepares the teacher to teach in a bilingual environment that requires the development of English language skills concurrent with academic instruction in the student's primary language.

Cal Poly Pomona's program will prepare you for these challenges and assist you to become teacher leaders in your classroom and larger school community. Our programs are fully accredited by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing and meet all state teacher preparation standards and Teaching Performance Expectations.
