Dr. Annel Medina

Dr. Medina currently assists the College of Education and Integrative Studies at the California State Polytechnic University Pomona as an Evaluation and Assessment Coordinator.  Among college wide assessment duties, she is also responsible for preparing federal and state mandated reports for the Chancellor’s Office, the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC), and other institutions.  She is a member of the American Education Research Association and American Educational Studies Association


Annel Denise Medina received her Bachelor of Arts with honors in Sociology and Political Science at the University of California at Irvine in 2001, a Master of Arts (2003) and Doctorate of Philosophy (2007) in Educational Policy Studies with an emphasis on Sociology of Education from the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign.  Under the guidance of Dr. Wanda Pillow, she completed her dissertation “College Knowledge: The Experiences of Mexican Mothers and Educational Success in the Midwest.”  Her current research interests include the intersection of race, class, and gender as they impact teacher preparation, parent/family engagement in education, and the social context of education.  Past teaching experience includes school community relations, research methods, social and cultural foundations of education, and politics of education.
