Can I prove subject matter competence without taking all
of the courses on the Checklist?
Yes. You can also take the CSET
examination. There are two types of science credentials
available:
1) The full credential
and
2) The more restricted
“specialized” credential.
To obtain the full credential, you will need to pass the
General Science Exams (Subtest 1 and 2) and the Part 3 examination
in your science area (e.g. biology for a Biology credential).
To obtain the “specialized” credential, you need
to pass the CSET examinations Parts 3 and 4 in your science
area (e.g. chemistry for a Chemistry credential). You may
also qualify for a “specialized” credential if
you have a minimum of 30 semester units of graduate work from
an accredited institution. Please contact Dr.
Jodye Selco for more information.
