An excellent college education includes more than taking classes. Extracurricular student activities can enrich the college experience, so the Cal Poly Pomona civil engineering program places a strong emphasis on student clubs and extracurricular activities. We have six student clubs devoted specifically to civil engineering. In addition, other clubs with a wider range of interest also are available.

The American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) is a national organization of professional civil engineers. The Cal Poly Pomona student chapter is associated with the national organization, and is the largest civil engineering student club. It also is one of the largest clubs on campus.

One of the highlights of the year is the annual ASCE Pacific Southwest Conference, which is a competition between civil engineering students from universities in Southern California, Southern Nevada, Arizona, and Hawaii. These competitions include the concrete canoe race, steel bridge contest, surveying competition, and other similar events. The Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE) is a national professional organization devoted to the planning, design, operation, and maintenance of transportation facilities. The ITE Student chapter is affiliated with this national organization.
Students in this club have regular meetings, and attend meetings of professional ITE chapters. The club also organizes field trips and social events.
The Structural Engineers Association student chapter is associated with the Structural Engineers Association of California, a professional organization. Typical activities include guest speakers, field trips, and social events.
The Society of Environmental Engineers is an organization of students interested in environmental engineering. Typical activities include guest speakers, field trips, and social events.
The California Land Surveyors Association student chapter is associated with the statewide CLSA. Typical club activities include guest speakers, field trips, and social events.

Chi Epsilon is the civil engineering honor society. Students who satisfy the membership requirements are invited to join the Cal Poly Pomona chapter..
Our Chi Epsilon student chapter organizes the annual civil engineering job fair. Other events include the annual banquet, and attendance at national and regional Chi Epsilon events.
Tau Beta Pi is the national engineering honor society. It includes all areas of engineering.
The Society of Hispanics in Science and Engineering focuses on promoting career opportunities in science and engineering for Hispanics.
