Cal Poly Students in Other Majors

Cal Poly students in other majors may enroll in civil engineering courses, so long as they satisfy the required prerequisites. However, since these most of these courses are required for civil engineering (and in some cases construction engineering technology) students, these students will be given priority over students from other majors.

  • Exception: CE 314 is intended for majors outside of civil engineering, and is not open to CE majors.

Current Cal Poly undergraduate students who wish to change majors to civil engineering must satisfy the following criteria:

    • Be in good standing (Overall GPA and Cal Poly Pomona GPA > 2.0)
    • Have completed MAT 114 with a C or better, or satisfy all of the prerequisites needed to enroll in MAT 114 during their first quarter as a CE major

Students wishing to change majors should first discuss their plans with the CE Department. These students must then complete a change of major form, which is available from the Registrar's Office in the CLA Building, and submit this form to the College of Engineering Dean's Office (Building 9, Room 225). If approved, change of major requests submitted before the seventh week of the quarter normally become effective at the beginning of the following quarter.

Current Cal Poly undergraduate students who wish to declare civil engineering as a double major must complete a form, which is available from the Registrar's Office. They then should bring this form to the Civil Engineering Department and discuss their plans as a double major. Students planning to double major in civil engineering and construction engineering technology should click here.

Current Cal Poly graduate students who wish to change their major to civil engineering should contact the civil engineering department do discuss their plans.
