Civil Engineering students who have passed certain Advance Placement (AP) examinations will receive up to nine units of credit for specific courses, as shown in the following table. Students must arrange for an official record of the test scores sent to the Registrar's Office. These score reports may be ordered from the College Board website. There is no need to file an academic petition.
In some cases, the Civil Engineering faculty recommend taking Calculus courses in spite of having received a passing score on the AP exam. These cases are shown in yellow on the table.
A scores of 3 or above on one of the English exams also exempts the student from the Cal Poly English Placement Test (EPT). A scores of 3 or above on one of the Calculus or Statistics exams also exempts the student from the Cal Poly Entry Level Mathematics (ELM) exam.
