The Los Angeles Partnership for Afterschool Enrichment sponsors regular networking events that address topics relevant to the after school community and are open to LA PASE members and others working in youth serving programs in the general LA region.

Jazz Up Your Program Enrichment

Participants explore engaging after school activities such as NASA science, digital multi-media technology, robotics, computer programming, ballroom dancing, visual and performing arts.  Appropriate for all levels of program staff and administrators.

Focus on Literacy in After School

California’s publicly funded after school programs are charged with support the reading and writing skill development of students in their program. This workshop will focus on this critical component of ASES and 21stCCLC programs and ways to integrate language arts across the program curriculum. Appropriate for site coordinators and program administrators.

Positive Behavior Guidance Strategies

With the expansion of ASES and 21stCCLC programs in 2007 new program staff need to be versed in effective strategies for guiding the behavior of the students they serve during the after school hours. This workshop will introduce basic concepts and practical approaches for building community in program settings that foster positive behavioral outcomes. Appropriate for site staff, coordinators and new program administrators.

This two-session workshop is geared for new grantees and will provide an in-depth overview of key program components and practical tools and strategies for starting-up and operating an ASES or 21stCCLC program. Now that you have started operating your program you need to reflect on your evaluation approach. How will you assess your program’s effectiveness in achieving intended outcome goals. Expert evaluators and experienced program managers will discuss evaluation designs and share tools that are particularly relevant to after school professionals concerned with using evaluation as part of their ongoing program improvement efforts. Appropriate for new and experienced program administrators.

Middle School Programs

Middle school students require a different approach to after school programming. Presented by experienced local middle school program leaders, this intensive Saturday workshop focuses on specific program design features and youth development strategies that work with middle school youth. Appropriate for site staff and coordinators, and new program administrators.

JPL Tour and Science Curriculum

This is unique opportunity to visit the JPL laboratory and receive an orientation to NASA science curriculum materials: Reading, Writing & Rings Literacy through Science for K-5, and the new Astrobiology curriculum written specifically for after school programs.  Appropriate for site coordinators and program administrators serious about developing the science component of their programs using NASA materials.
