In order to provide the best letter possible, I typically only write letters for students if:
Generally course advising sessions are not sufficient for me to know you well enough to write a recommendation letter. All students requesting a letter *must* waive their right to view the letter. This does not imply that I will give you an unfavorable evaluation, rather it (1) protects me from any potential legal ramifications and (2) is taken more seriously by evaluators than letters in which students do not waive their rights. After I have agreed to write you a letter, send me electronic copies of these two forms: Provide me with pre-addressed stamped envelopes and signed letter waiver forms for all letters submitted in hardcopy. |
