Bio-Acoustic Research Exhibit
Come listen to the fish! Sound-producing fishes are found in many habitats, but this exhibit currently focuses on the "talking catfish" of South America and Africa. These fish produce sounds using their pectoral fins and swim bladders. The sounds may be used to frighten predators, or to communicate with other catfish—research carried out here may increase our understanding of these noisy fish.
