California Kelp Forest Exhibit
Off the coast of California, kelps (brown seaweeds) grow as tall as trees, their holdfasts clutching the bottom and their blades swaying with the waves at the surface. Like terrestrial forests, kelp forests support plants and animals in the canopy different from those of the forest floor.
Our kelps are artificial—living kelps are difficult to maintain in small aquaria.
