Q. What's big, transparent, filled with a rainforest, surrounded by ancient California, and next door to a world under water?
A. BioTrek! BioTrek is an educational enterprise of the Biological Sciences Department of California State Polytechnic University, Pomona. In its greenhouse, garden, and labs, it brings to students and the public both hands-on and electronic educational experiences of the tropical rainforest, aquatic environments of the tropics and California, and California indigenous plants and people.
BioTrek provides tours for levels kindergarten through college, as well as for youth and adult clubs. Fees are based on the size of the group, the length of the tour, and the activities included.
For school districts in San Bernardino County and specified school districts in Los Angeles County, the FEDCO Classroom Enrichment Fund may offset some or all of the fees. The deadline for applications for the coming year is October 31, 2012.
