Research

The Ethnobotany Learning Center provides resources both for the study of the use of plants by indigenous Californians and for the study of California's indigenous flora. Mark Acuña, Cultural Liaison of the Tongva/Gabrieleno Nation, uses the facility as part of his ongoing study of the ethnobotany of the Tongva. Jerry Taylor, who designed the layout of the garden, continues his studies of the use of California native plants in landscapes. And Curtis Clark uses plantings in the garden as part of his ongoing studies of the California Poppy and its relatives and of brittlebush and other desert shrubs.
