The City of Hope is located a few miles from the Cal Poly campus in the city of Duarte. The institution consists of the City of Hope National Medical Center and the Beckman Research Institute. The Medical Center and the Research Institute have an outstanding international reputation for achievements in basic science and the practice of innovative medicine
The Biological Sciences Department and City of Hope have instituted a Graduate Research Fellowship program where graduate students do their course work at Cal Poly and conduct thesis research in a laboratory at the City of Hope. The areas of research available include cellular and molecular biology, immunology, and neurobiology. Students would complete most of the course work during the first year, then spend ~2 years doing research in a laboratory at the City of Hope. Participants may apply for Teaching Associateships from the Biological Sciences Department while taking courses, and will receive financial support from the City of Hope while doing their research. The degree will be awarded by Cal Poly University. A student must first be admitted to the Master's Program at Cal Poly University, then they may apply for the Fellowship Program.
