Instructors for Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS)

POSITION: Seeking Part-time, non-tenure track instructors for Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) didactic courses in Blood Banking, Hematology, Clinical Chemistry and/or Medical Microbiology. Positions currently open for instructors of Clinical Chemistry and/or Medical Microbiology, but applications for instructors of Blood Banking and Hematology are also accepted.

STARTING DATE FOR CURRENT OPEN POSITIONS: January 3, 2014-March 28, 2014 for Clinical Chemistry course and April 4, 2014-June 27, 2014 for Medical Microbiology course to be taught at California State Polytechnic University, Pomona (Cal Poly Pomona).

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A Bachelor's degree plus a CLS license, or, a higher degree in a life science discipline with coursework in the area of hematology, clinical chemistry, immunology, or medical microbiology from an accredited institution of higher education; classroom teaching experience at the secondary or post-secondary level; and experience in assays/techniques used in a clinical laboratory setting are required. Applicants should have the ability to relate well to others within a multiethnic, multicultural academic environment.

DESIRED/PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Licensed CLS for individuals with a Master's of Science degree or above.

DUTIES FOR CURRENT OPEN POSITIONS: The successful candidate(s) will teach didactic curriculum to Clinical Laboratory Scientist trainees in the CLS Training Program offered jointly by California State University, Los Angeles, and Cal Poly Pomona. Classes in winter and spring quarters 2014 will be taught on the Cal Poly Pomona campus. Classes will be held morning and afternoon one day a week on Fridays for 13 weeks in Winter (Clinical Chemistry) and Spring (Medical Microbiology) quarters. Candidate(s) will use existing curricular content outlines and learning outcomes as well as developed curriculum materials to present lectures and problem-based learning exercises. Candidate(s) will grade homework and examinations. In addition, the instructor is expected to be reasonably available to address student questions outside of scheduled class time.

SALARY RANGE: Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.
