Meat Science Club Member Wins at Competition
The Meat Science Club attended the California Association of Meat Processors annual convention on Feb. 23-26 at Chico State University. Club members competed in a sausage competition to develop and make a fresh, un-smoked and uncooked sausage using any ingredient.
Meat Club Creates Broncowurst
The campus meat club has created a new product that represents Cal Poly Pomona. Broncowurst is a bun-length sausage that uses the school's colors through the use of parsley, parmesan cheese and crushed red pepper seeds. The product will be taken to the National Meat Association convention by a four-student team and is for sale at the Meat Lab and the Farm Store.
Who's His Mama? Five Attentive Ag Students
Five College of Agriculture students and live-in student employees at the Arabian Horse Center have cared for Oliver, an orphaned foal, since his mother died from pregnancy complications.
Meat-ing Excellence for Ag Student
The National Meat Association chose fourth-year animal science student Jeannie Knuchell to receive the Edie Schmidt NMA Memorial Scholarship of $2,500 and a travel stipend to attend the NMA 64th Annual Convention in Indian Wells.
Student Heads to Rodeo Nationals
Rob Oakleaf, an animal science major and senior at Cal Poly Pomona, will be competing in the bareback horse-riding competition at the 2009 College National Finals Rodeo.
Horse Show Team Does it Again!
Following a successful showing at the 2008 Nationals, seven members of the Cal Poly Pomona Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) Team qualified for the 2009 IHSA National Championships hosted by Middle Tennessee State. Membership on CPP’s Horse Show Team is open to all majors and provides a great opportunity to learn communication and leadership skills.

Nineteen members of Cal Poly Pomona’s Livestock Show Team exhibited 39 head of livestock at the Great Western Livestock Show in Tulare, California, March 6-8, 2009.
