Student Learning Outcomes
SLO #1. The students will have the knowledge of domesticated production and companion animal nutrition, health status and physiology.
*Student Learning Outcome Competencies for SLO # 1.
At the time of graduation, an Animal Science student should be able to master and demonstrate core discipline knowledge and skills in the following areas:
- Large animal ethology and animal husbandry skills
- Small and companion animal ethology and animal husbandry skills
- Large and small animal nutrition knowledge
- Mammalian animal genetics
- Animal reproduction
- Veterinary medical sciences: endocrinology, immunology, pharmacology and biotechnology applications
- Animal diseases and herd health
- Food safety principles
- Animal anatomy and physiology
- Basic animal research techniques and methodology
Student learning measures: Formative assessment; Students will score 70% or better to advance to the next level of summative assessment. Senior Summative Assessment; Students will score 70% or better on the senior exit examination. Individual areas of deficiencies will be assessed.
Senior Student projects will be evaluated. Students will score 70% or better to meet the assessment criteria of this SLO
SLO #2. The students will learn to evaluate and understand the factors that influence the impact of animal health, animal welfare and animal care on; other animals, people, society and the environment.

At the time of graduation students will have knowledge of and be able to critically evaluate the factors affecting:
- Zoonotic diseases and their relationships to people and society.
- Production animals and the environment.
- Companion animals and their influence upon society.
- The human animal bond.
- The ethical issues surrounding the use of animals for food, fiber and research.
- A scientific approach to the evaluation of animal life by society.
