Cal Poly Pomona Records Three Qualifying Marks
Broncos have three post provisional NCAA standards
FULLERTON – Cal Poly Pomona’s men’s and women’s track and field teams had three student-athletes earn NCAA Division II provisional qualifying marks to highlight action at the Ben Brown Invitational Saturday.
Daniel Rojas (Sr., Baldwin Park, Mt. San Antonio College) and Mark Batres (Jr., Rowland Heights, Don Bosco Tech HS) earned provisional qualifying marks in the 5,000 meters, while Carmen Franklin (Jr., Sacramento, Loretto HS) had a provisional qualifying mark in the 800 meters for the Broncos.
Rojas finished fourth in the men’s 5,000 and posted a time of 14:28.27, while Batres, an All-American in the 10,000 meters last season, was sixth in 14:29.70. Both Broncos also earned All-America honors last fall in cross country. The times were the best 5,000 marks for both runners in their Cal Poly Pomona careers. Rojas’ previous best at Cal Poly Pomona was 14:45.76, while Batres’ previous best was 14:50.05.
Franklin, a returning All-American in the 800 meters, was fifth in her race Saturday with a time of 2:14.06.
Paul Nurre (Jr., Upland, UC Riverside) won his heat of the 110 hurdles with a time of 15.92, while Jamie Ray (Sr., Barstow, Barstow HS) won the women’s steeplechase with a time of 11:32.60.
Dani Casupanan (Jr., Tustin, Tustin HS) was third in the long jump with a mark of 22-1.50, while Adam Moore (So., Moorpark, Moorpark HS) ran well in the 400 hurdles with a time of 54.38.
